Pros:

Fairly good low post scorer
Decent scorer off the dribble
Adequate shooter, has stretch big potential
Excels at scoring on the move
Very good rebounder
Decent shot blocker
Above average athlete

Cons:

May need to add more low post moves
Can be reluctant to take outside jumpers
Needs to improve his free throw shooting
Needs to improve his playmaking skills
Struggles to guard quicker players
Not an elite athlete, has foot speed concerns
Weight concerns, may be hard to manage body over the long term

Summary:

Vernon Carey Jr. is a strong, mobile big man that can score the basketball in a variety of ways, and he also handles the ball well, especially for a player his size. He can put it on the deck to score, he can post up, and he can knock down jumpers. He’ll need to show that he can effectively guard upper echelon players on a consistent basis, but still, Carey is a talented player that could end up being a first round pick in 2020.
